Laughter Yoga
Laughter Yoga (Hasya Yoga) is a practice that involves prolonged laughter combined with breathing exercises.
A Laughter Yoga session includes laughter exercises, clapping, breathing, playfulness and a grounding mediation.
The practise provides the same physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter as our brain can not decide between real and fake laughter. Pretend laughter soon turns into real and contagious laughter.
The Laughter Yoga method was made popular around 1995 by an Indian physician Dr. Madan Kataria, who writes about the practice in his 2002 book Laugh For No Reason.
BENEFITS OF LAUGHTER YOGA:
By practising Laughter Yoga on a regular basis you can bring more joy and wellbeing into your life.
We release tension, stress and work on many levels of our whole wellbeing.
We are opening the body by stretching, dancing and moving in a playful way, like children.
We repeat positive affirmations that empower us to overcome negative thoughts.
Clapping activates pressure points in our hands that make us feel joyful and circulate energy through the body.
Breathing opens the lungs and increases the oxygen levels in our brain and blood circulation.
With Laughter exercises we are stimulating our endocrine system by releasing hormones called Endorphines from our brain, which will leave you feeling light-hearted, energetic and joyful.
