5 Elements Yin Yoga & Myofascial Release

Dive deeper into the practise of Yin Yoga and learn about Taoist Philosophy, Meridians and acupressure points in combination with Myofascial Release techniques to enrich your own self-care practise or enhance your teaching skills.
This is a series of 5 Yin Yoga classes that are based on the 5 Elements (Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal) and their related Meridians combined with learning about Fascial lines and Myofascial release techniques.

Yin Yoga originates from Taoist Yoga and is a slow and gentle form of Yoga. The practise serves as an antidote to a busy, active life style and naturally helps you to restore your energy levels. Yin Yoga Positions are typically held between 3-5 minutes for a deep release of physical, mental and emotional tension. Yin Yoga is a mindfulness practise and a great way to calm a busy mind and act as an antidote to stress and tension.

Myofascial release is a therapy practise that evolved in the 1960s for treating skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles, improving blood & lymphatic circulation and stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles. The practise involves compression that is held for a certain period of time and released so tension and trigger points can resolve - typically with Props such as yoga bolsters or blocks and Massage Balls and Rollers.

In combination the two methods will give you a deeper understanding of your holding patterns and help you to evolve a therapeutic approach to releasing tension, increasing range of movement and erasing pain.

In this course you will:

  • practise and modify Yin Yoga poses and evaluate when yoga props are needed.

  • understand where and how you should feel the effects of the poses.

  • understand how emotions affect us and their relation to the connective tissue (fascia).

In addition you will learn:

  • 5 Elements and related Meridians according to traditional Chinese medicine.

  • Acupressure points to increase or decrease flow of blood and chi and their benefits.

  • Fascia lines and how we can address them - Anatomy trains

  • Myofascial release techniques (applying pressure and stretches with props (such as Tennis- or Massageballs, Yoga blocks, Bolsters or Blankets.

  • Breathing Relaxation techniques.
